"First Coffee of the Day"
Coffee, drawing ink, acrylic paint, and coloured pencils on handmade paper
20cm x 25cm

My illustration 'First Coffee of the Day' shows my depiction of a woman hugging a giant coffee bean. My intention was to represent the experience of waking up in the morning to that first cup of hot coffee. You are feeling groggy and half asleep, but as the coffee fills you with warmth, you are gently woken up and brought back to the real worId.

To paint the coffee bean I’ve used actual coffee grounds, in order to produce a truer colour. The piece is painted onto my own handmade paper, created using a deckle and mould.
