"Ophelia decided to drown her sorrows in a cup of coffee instead"
Photography and Photo-painting
70 x 50 cm

If Ophelia had decided to drown her sorrows in a cup of coffee (rather than drowning herself), then perhaps Hamlet would have said “Espresso or double espresso, that is the question”! Our artwork is a coffee-themed tribute to “Ophelia” by Millais, held in the Tate. We wanted to make this our own, so Debi Belladonna modelled for the picture of Ophelia. Instead of holding flowers, our Ophelia symbolically holds a spoon and a large sugar lump. This is the product of an artistic collaboration between two friends involving painting, photography, collage, Photoshop, creative differences, and numerous cups of coffee.
