‘Contaminated’
oil on canvas
51 x 76 cm

The painting is adapted from a film scene taking place in a café. The character, drinking coffee, has noticed the headlines
of a newspaper - ‘Contaminated’ is a reference to the drinking water in Africa. There is a sense of foreboding and an
overall blue feeling to the work. Coffee is a luxury and a big business but whilst some people make a lot of money out
of it, there are those living in coffee growing regions that can’t even get clean water to drink, never mind the luxury
of a cup of coffee. I wanted to suggest these extremes.
